Exploring community renewable energy for Bigbury and neighbouring parishes

 

Devon Energy Collective CIC (DEC) is leading work to explore the feasibility of a single community-owned wind turbine in Bigbury, with potential benefits for the surrounding parishes of Ringmore, Kingston and Aveton Gifford.

Bigbury Net Zero is supporting the project because exploring locally generated renewable energy is closely aligned with our aims: helping our community reduce carbon emissions, respond to the climate and biodiversity emergency and look at practical ways in which local action can make a difference.

DEC is responsible for developing the proposal, carrying out the technical work and leading the community engagement process. No decision has been made about whether the turbine will go ahead. The project is currently about establishing whether it is technically, financially and environmentally viable, and giving local people opportunities to understand the proposal and contribute their views.

Community Questions

DEC know the proposal has prompted questions locally. Alongside a series of events and opportunities to find out more, they have brought together a set of Community Questions, drawn from questions raised by residents and interested parties, as well as frequently asked questions about the project.

Each question has a response and will include links to supporting information and evidence where available. The aim is to make it easy for people to access clear information, consider the evidence and form their own views about the proposal.

This is an evolving resource, which will continue to be developed over the next few months. DEC  welcome new questions. The project is still developing, so some details are not yet finalised, and further information will be added as it becomes available.
